Glossary
The terms, in one sentence.
ACWR, sRPE, HSR and the rest of the load, wellness and planning vocabulary that shows up in Athlo, explained plainly.
- ACWR
- The ratio between acute load (recent days) and chronic load (previous weeks); it is a monitoring tool, not an injury predictor. Athlo lets you configure ACWR profiles with rolling average or EWMA, and coupled or uncoupled calculation. Learn more
- Acute load
- Load accumulated over a player's recent period, typically the last seven days.
- Chronic load
- Load accumulated over a longer period, typically the last four weeks, used as a reference for what the player has been tolerating.
- Rolling average
- A way to calculate acute or chronic load that weighs every day in the chosen window equally, for example 7 or 28 days.
- EWMA
- Exponentially weighted moving average: weighs recent days more heavily and older ones less, rather than treating them all the same as a rolling average.
- Coupled / uncoupled
- In coupled, acute load is part of chronic load; in uncoupled, the two are calculated over periods that do not overlap.
- Optimal zone
- A reference range around which load is considered well balanced, without sharp spikes or drops.
- Monotony
- A measure of how even the week's load was: the daily average divided by its variation. A very monotonous week does not distinguish hard days from light ones.
- Strain
- Monotony multiplied by total weekly load; it combines volume and a lack of variation into a single number.
- RPE
- The subjective effort a player reports after a session, on a numeric scale.
- sRPE
- RPE multiplied by the session's duration in minutes: a simple way to estimate a training session's internal load. Athlo logs the player's RPE after every session, and staff can also enter responses in bulk. Learn more
- Internal load
- The player's bodily response to training, estimated from signals such as RPE rather than measured directly.
- External load
- The objective physical work a player performs — distance, speed, accelerations — that a GPS typically captures.
- HSR (high-speed running distance)
- Distance covered above a high velocity threshold, configured according to the file's source system.
- Sprint distance
- Distance covered above an even higher velocity threshold than HSR, associated with maximal efforts.
- HMLD
- High metabolic load distance: combines speed and acceleration to estimate the energetic cost of movement.
- Player load
- A composite metric that summarises the mechanical load of tri-axial acceleration during a session; its exact calculation depends on the file's source system.
- MD-x (matchday)
- A convention for naming microcycle days by their distance from the match: MD-1 is the day before, MD+1 the day after.
- Microcycle
- The training week organised around one or more matches. Athlo plans training sessions and matches with date, time, microcycle context, call-up and participation. Learn more
- Wellness
- A short daily questionnaire on how the player arrives: sleep, muscle soreness, mood, stress, among other questions. Athlo lets you configure daily wellness with numeric or single-choice questions and visual thresholds. Learn more
- Daily checklist
- A record of squad care tasks: hydration, prehab, nutrition. The daily checklist lets staff record squad compliance from an editable grid. Learn more
- Physical target (green, amber and red zones)
- A reference range for a physical metric, split into compliance zones. Athlo lets you set physical targets for the whole squad, by position or by player, with green, amber and red zones. Learn more
- Availability
- A player's operational status to train or play; it is not a medical diagnosis. Athlo records unavailability periods with reason, dates and history to keep a consistent operational reference. Learn more
- Operating period
- A window of time, such as a season, over which squads, sessions and analysis are organised. Athlo manages seasons and squads while keeping each player's historical link to the team. Learn more
- Alias (import)
- A saved mapping between a column in your GPS file and the Athlo metric it corresponds to. Confirmed mappings can be learned to simplify future imports. Learn more
